The Sun; the sun...

The sun is shining for the first time in several days. The SunJar is collecting rays in anticipation of this evenings' festivities...

After the hottest August on record with 25 days at or above 90 degrees (five of them 100 degrees or above), I can't believe I'm excited to see the sun!

We ate lunch at the recently opened Riverbank Cafe on the West side of the Great Miami River. The Riverbank Cafe is in the original Rumple Building .

The eclectic menu made luncheon decisions difficult. The Kentucky Hot Brown was a favorite of the staff; after ordering, we were in complete agreement. I had the Greek Gyro, one of my all time favorites. It was tasty, too.
A Happy New Year to You!
January 1, 2008, watch for the Lakota West High School marching band in the Tournament of Roses Parade; the first band from South West Ohio to march in the parade! Congratulations!

I am thinking of you...

I
am thinking
of you today
because it is Christmas
and I wish
you happiness and
tomorrow because it
will be the day after
Christmas,
I shall still wish
you happiness and so
on clear through the
year.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Presents 'Neath the Tree

The morning high temperature of 46 degrees quickly dropped as a cold front moved through. We fired up the electric heater in the sun room to make opening presents more enjoyable.

K.K. opening presents... "I love presents," she says. And what could be better than a pink sweater? She is wearing her pink and purple gloves accompanied by her pink 'hearts' hat.
"A 'Cars' hat for me?" says Noah. Noah, wearing his 'Cars' hat and gloves.

Grandpa opening the third delivered package with a little help from Noah. Hmmm, what could it be?

It is called a "SunJar" . Place the jar in the sun to store up sunshine for the night-time. Awe-some!
"Thank you" to Christine and Bob for the SunJar!

Puzzling Puzzles...
K.K., also known as the 'bug lady', likes to complete puzzles.
SO.
Somebody found three dimensional puzzles of insects at his favorite store and purchased several of them as a 'father - daughter' project for K.K. and her father.

Voila!

The completed preying mantis!

K.K. thought that was so much fun, she was ready to complete another puzzle. "Grandpa, which would you rather do?" says K.K. "The bumblebee or the butterfly?"

K.K. with the completed three dimensional puzzles: a grasshopper, a bumblebee, a butterfly and the preying mantis.

Wow!

We get packages...

Packages from Christine and Bob came in the mail. The tallest box on the left said, "Perishable: Live Plants: Open at Once". What kind of plant will it be?

It is called a Sago Palm.
Even though it appears to be a palm, it is not a true palm, but belongs to an ancient group of plants called cycads (si' kad). Cycads are a very primitive group of seed-bearing plants more closely related to conifers than to palms.

And a tree ornament celebrating 75 years of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
Thank you for the gifts, Christine and Bob. The third package remains under the tree to be opened later...

Happy Winter Solstice to you! The hours of daylight will now begin to get longer.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

The snow started about an hour ago. The prediction is for three to six inches and it's lookin' like it might be an accurate prediction!

The snow is wet and coming down in big flakes. The cars traveling on our road have slowed to a reasonable speed of 15 - 20 miles an hour. Remarkable!

First Snow...

Two cars slipped off the road early this morning. Commuters turned around in our driveway to detour the accidents.
The snow has not yet completely covered the grass.
I shoveled the walk this morning and it's looking like it needs to be shoveled again.

19th Annual Lebanon Carriage Parade

The historic Golden Lamb Restaurant decorated for the holidays.

And the parade begins...

Miniature horses on the left and donkeys on the right.
The last donkey on the side closest to us was being pulled down the road by his teammates. That's why they are called...
The carriage on the left has a miniature horse inside the 'present'. On the right, is the 'Grinch'.
Mr. and Mrs Claus saying, "Merry Christmas" to the crowd.

Each of the more than 125 carriages in the parade was unique in its own way: these horses were, truly, the 'show' horses. The street thundered as they rolled by.

A four-wide team pulling a fire pump.

Even though temperatures were in the mid-thirties, many people came out to watch the 'Carriage Parade'.
