Thanksgiving 2013
We joined the not-so-Little People and their parents for Thanksgiving in Louisville.
Our contributions to the dinner included the pies
(apple, pumpkin and brandy/rum minced meat)
and sliced zucchini bread.
Marvin and Jeanne, the best Thanksgiving host and hostess.
After dinner, some of us took a walk to a near-by playground.
It was cold, the sun was shining and there was a little breeze.
Not too bad, if you kept moving!

Great Aunt Diane and Great Uncle Bruce drove to Louisville from Iowa.
They bring early Christmas presents for the children.
Great Aunt Diane is helping El choose a locket for her necklace.
Choices, choices, choices!
Each girl chose five charms to put inside her locket.
The charms were to represent who each girl is.
And Noah?
He got a Christmas bag full of video games.
Which one to play first.....
The ladies are pleased with their new necklaces.

Birthday Wishes
We met the Little People and their parents at Olive Garden for a birthday lunch.
The dessert was a delicious apple crisp that is sitting in the middle of the table.

The temperatures were in the mid-twenties,

LINCOLN Comes to Town
Governor Bebb MetroPark Pioneer Village
Recognizing Veterans and the 150th Anniversary of
The Gettysburg Address
One of the few remaining covered bridges in Butler County.
Birthplace of William Bebb; 1802 - 1873.
Nineteenth Governor of Ohio 1846 - 1848.
This pioneer cabin built in 1799 was owned by Edward Bebb,
father of William and the first Welshman to settle
in Morgan Township, Butler County.
William Bebb was born December 8, the first white child born
west of the Great Miami River.
Cabin and Park dedicated June 17, 1961.
The fireplace inside the cabin was triangular in shape.
One opening heated the main living area,
a second opening heated the bedroom to the left
and a third opening was for cooking in the kitchen.
The openings for the main room and the bedroom have been
blocked off from the kitchen opening.
Ladies were spinning in the kitchen area.

In the Berridge Cabin, a woman dressed in period costume described
Civil War Medicine and Treatments.
A man wanting to become a doctor 'assisted' a known doctor.
The known doctor may/may not have shared his remedies,
fearing that the new doctor would take his patients.
The oral exam before becoming a doctor consisted of answering the question,
"Do you want to be a doctor?"

Inside, Woody Cook had an interesting antique weapons display.
The display consisted of flintlocks, matchlocks,
Sharps and Spencer Seven Shots,
old-time Enfields.
He had several triangular bayonets.
Triangular bayonet stab wounds were hard to heal.

Lincoln Facts
Lincoln Firsts: He was the first president to be born outside of the original
13 states, the first president to wear a beard and the
first president to be assassinated in office.
It was President Abraham Lincoln who proclaimed that there be a national
Thanksgiving Day on the last Thursday of November.
He proclaimed this on October 3, 1863.
Lincoln liked to tell humorous stories and jokes. He asked his sons,
"How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?"
He answered, "Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."

The Visit
The not-so-little people brought their mother up for a visit.
Noah is making the tallest possible building.
Ellie made patterns with her blocks.
Kaitlyn is reading a story on a Nook.
Noah, trying to make an even taller tower.
The picture on the right was taken seconds before the tower fell.
We took a long walk out back - there were puddles of water.
One of us fell in the water and got wet and muddy.
She suggested that while her muddy clothes were washed, then dried,
she could put on her clothes for Sunday,
then wear her newly cleaned clothes on Sunday.
Works for me!
