Happy New Year!

The temperature was 54. The sun was shining with a balmy southern breeze and promises of afternoon temperatures in the upper 50's/lower 60's.
Perfect weather to wash the salt off the cars!

Small patches of snow remained.

With the warmer temperatures, these patches soon will be gone!

Monday will bring more seasonable temperatures!

We wish you a happy, healthy New Year!

Presents in the Mail

It was Christmas Eve day.

We got presents in the mail from Christine and Bob.

Holiday decorations on a holly bush.

A box of assorted cheeses from Murray's 'neath the tree.

The cheeses included a gorgonzola, a buttery, rich camembert, 'tickler' and a parmigiano-reggiano along with a half pound of sea salt and olive oil Z crackers! Z Best! Z Most!

Today's delivery was a box of Great Zabar's Toasting Bagels. "Toast and enjoy!"
Yes, I think we will!

A snow update: we have had 16.6 inches of snow in December. Average snowfall for December is 3.6 inches. This is the sixth snowiest December on record!
We are promised warmer temperatures and RAIN before the end of the year... we'll see!

Little People

The Little People brought their mom up for a visit.
We walked around the Christmas display at Niederman's Farm. K.K. read the story of Jesus.
We enjoyed hot chocolate after our walk.
We walked through the barns to see the donkeys and the llama. There were also guinea hens, ducks, a rabbit and turkeys to visit.

The 'big kids' got to frost cookies.
Mmmmm!

It snowed overnight.

'Gempa' pulled a skid behind the Oliver for all of us to ride. Little Miss El and I were cold, but the 'big kids' were ready for yet another ride on the lift.

I am thinking of you...

I
am thinking
of you today
because it is Christmas
and I wish
you happiness and
tomorrow because it
will be the day after
Christmas,
I shall still wish
you happiness and so
on clear through the
year.

A Visit to Niederman's Christmas Farm

The temperature was in the low 30's as we walked through the Niederman's Christmas display.
Afterwards, we went inside the big barn for a drink of hot chocolate and to warm up. The Northern Cincinnati Youth Orchestra was entertaining guests.
Happy First Day of Winter! Stay warm!

Weather Terrorists

The weather terrorists were in all their glory yesterday, predicting the impending snow storm. This is the third snow storm in two weeks.
Not the snow that Aunt 'V' and Minnesota Fred have had, but enough snow to close 360 agencies/businesses and schools in the area! Aunt 'V' reports over 30 inches of snow! Yikes! But, things could be worse, she says.
Schools were closed Monday for the three to six inches of snow that fell Sunday and Monday. Two 'snow days' in a week!

I shoveled the back walk this morning before I walked out to get the newspaper. An hour and a half later, the walk is covered with snow, and there is another hour of snow predicted.

Snowy day update: we have had 11.9 inches of snow so far; average for this time of the year is 1.6 inches. With five more days until winter!

The 'Little People' Monday on their 'snow day.'
Mom said, "The kids came up with this on their own."

Other 'snowy day' projects. There is a Scholastic Book Warehouse in our area that hosts two 'sales' each year. For the last five years, I have organized retired/active teacher friends to volunteer at the warehouse to earn 'vouchers' that will be used to 'purchase' books for the children of the local Head Start.
Judy K. helping a customer find the location of a book; Becky welcoming a customer to the sale; Judy W. and Leslie arranging a customer's books in the 'build-a-box' area (all the books you can put in a box for $24.95).

The Head Start teachers will shop tomorrow. Volunteers have 'earned' vouchers that will buy $1400 worth of books.
Thank you to all the volunteers!

Snow Waltzes In

We had our first measurable snow Saturday.
Not the snow that Minnesota Fred has had, but the most snow that has fallen in our area on December 4.

We walked out back, noticing the various animal tracks left during the early morning hours.

The grandchildren had enough snow to build snowmen!
And had snow left over!
Little Miss El likes the snow, too!

I like the hat on the snowman.... hmmm, who gave you that hat?
