Pinewood Derby
Grandpa Meyers and Noah are checking in at the Pinewood Derby.
Four dens competed in the Derby.
Each car was carefully inspected.

Birthday Wishes!
We met the "Little People" and their parents at Olive Garden for a birthday luncheon.
A birthday card and 'John Deere kite.'

The baby is here!
Minnesota Fred is a new grandfather... His new grandson arrived March 22.

First day of Spring...
The first day of Spring; the clothes are hanging on the clothes line, the garden is plowed, the grass cut.
So far, the heat wave of March has broken or tied records for five straight days.
That streak could come to an end today.
Today's predicted high in the 80's is still way above the average 55 degree mark for this time of year, but the record for today's date - 85 degrees was set in 1907.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, new record highs were set for those dates when temperatures hit 83 degrees on both days.
A record high was set Sunday at 79 degrees.
The records were beaten by a single digit on each of the three dates.
Record highs were tied on Saturday (76 degrees) and Monday (81 degrees).
The oldest record to be broken during the five-day span: Tuesday, the warmest March 20 since 1894.

St. Patrick's Day Bicycle Ride
My bicycle loaded in the back of the truck.
We started our ride from one of the local elementary schools. There would be a gentle tail wind from the south, south-east.
Mixing business with the pleasure of a ride.
The engine that the 'boys' are working on is being tested. We stopped so that they could compare notes. Not everyone works a five day week, don'cha know?
I saw signs advertising a Civil War encampment at the Monroe Community Park. Not too far off our route.
There seemed to be at least a little method to what they were doing.
No shots were fired while we were there.

We had a cross-wind heading south and a little tail wind heading west back to the elementary school where we started.
Seventeen miles on March 17th - St. Patrick's Day.

Weather Madness
Thursday morning, the sun was shining.
There was a clap of thunder that sounded like an explosion!
I walked outside looking for a huge fire, but no fire.
A flash of lightening and an immediate clap of thunder and I knew it hadn't been an explosion.
Several flashes of lightening and immediate claps of thunder later, the sun is still shining, the clouds roll in and the rain pours down.
There was even some small 1/4 inch hail.
We've truly had some unusual weather!

Chrisholm Adventures
We helped the local antique machinery club last Saturday remove their stored items from the bank barn at Chrisholm Historic Farmstead.
Here is one of the three low-boys that were full of 'antique' items being taken to a new 'home.'
The wagons had been stored in this area of the barn. We moved items that did not belong to the antique machinery club so there would be room to move the stored boards from the loft onto a nearby wagon.
Here's Glenna with one of the boards that had been cut on the club's saw mill. I was on the wagon to receive and 'arrange' the boards as they were handed to me. Glenna carried one board over, then decided to join me on the wagon...
Smart move, Glenna!

Snow
We had a little bit of snow this morning. Not the 'blowable' snow that Minnesota Fred had, but some. We did have enough black ice to snarl early morning traffic and put a few schools on a delay.

I planted some sweet pea seeds along with the tomato and pepper seeds this spring. My father grew beautiful sweet peas and I thought I would give them a try.
Oh, oh! Yikes! Look how tall the sweet peas have grown!
I have re-potted them in larger pots and they continue to grow taller.
My father's sweet pea plants were 'bushy.' My sweet peas will grow to at least four feet tall!
