Winter Records
If you were thinking temperatures were exceptionally cold Tuesday morning, you were right.
Southwest Ohio set a low-temperature record for the date, February 24, breaking the previous record set in 1967. Temperatures dropped to 2 below zero Tuesday at 4:45 a.m., breaking the previous record for this date, which was 1 below zero. (Records have been broken in numerous places on numerous days.)
Temperatures will remain on the chilly side. Today, Wednesday, the temperature was to reach 30 with partly sunny skies. Our thermometer recorded 36 degrees this afternoon. Yeah! The sun today and yesterday was especially nice.
Twenty percent chance of snow tonight; low around 15 degrees. Chilly temperatures through Thursday and Friday.

Winter Wonderland
We woke to an additional four to five inches of snow!
And temperatures in the low 20's.
Almost balmy!
The snow is still powdery and easy to sweep/shovel.
The windmill was still.
Our road to the north.
Didn't I just shovel that walk?
No more snow pictures.
After today, the snow will be finished.
Warmer temperatures will return!

It's 2:00 pm. The snow has covered the road once again.
Just an hour ago, the road was wet, but free from snow.
Current temperature is 35 degrees.

A Walk in the Snow
Officially, this morning's temperature was minus 12;
yet another record setting temperature,
dating back to 1885 when the temperature was minus 7.
Thursday morning's official temperature of minus 6
broke the record set in 1936 of minus four.
School children have had a week of vacation.
Presidents Day followed by snow and unusual cold.
What do schools do in Minnesota?!?
Where it is really cold? And snowy?

The temperature was a balmy 16 when we walked out back.
The wind, however, was quite chilly on our faces.
The wind has knocked down yet another dead tree,
blocking one of our paths.
The snow flowers are buried.
The animals were running around last night.
On the left, deer crossing the road.
A deer got hit crossing there not so long ago.
We got the mail and fed the birds.
So much for our snowy day outside adventure!

Snow and More Snow
The sun, the sun is shining!
Snow fell overnight.
Schools remain closed; few cars are on the road.
The whirly gigs are quiet this morning.
Walked out back.
Glad I walked out back this morning.
Temperatures continue to drop from a high of 16 degrees.
Already in the single digits - 8.2 degrees.
Temps are to be below zero tonight.
Brrrr.....

Snow and C-O-L-D
All right, then. We don't live in Minnesota. We don't even live in Northern Ohio.
But we have had some unusually c-o-l-d weather!
Started out this morning at nine degrees; was 12 for awhile.
Now it is eleven degrees! Yikes!
A powdery snow has fallen all day.
Our road, looking south.
Yes. There is salt on the road.

Already, a Ford Focus has flipped north of here.
The hill to the south of us.
We are predicting at least one vehicle will end up in the ditch!
The snow plow just went north.
We walked out back.
The grass is barely covered.
Wait! Wasn't that walk just shoveled?

"Grandma, could you sew her a robe?"
We looked through my fabric drawer.
"Look! Here is some train fabric!"
"No! It's a GIRL, Grandma!"
A soft flannel was chosen for the robe.

A Valentine's Day Visit
The children brought their mother up for a visit.
No snow on the ground, but c-o-l-d temperatures.
Twenty degrees. The sun was warm.
We walked out back after lunch.
We were looking for the early snow flowers.
The girls found ice.
Snow flowers.
Not as many as in years past.
The temperatures seemed warmer back in the woods.
After a pizza dinner, Miss El and Noah built a zoo.
Noah and I played Uno while Miss El prepared her stuffed bear for bed.
K.K. drew pictures in her entry, Blue, for the Young Author's contest.
Her entry is called a graphic novella.
Noah's story was also chosen as an entrant to the Y.A.'s contest.
Fifth grade students read/choose the entries.

After an early breakfast, the children and their mother returned home.
The house is now uncluttered and quiet.
