Coolest Summer on Record...

From NOAA...

For the 2009 Summer, the average temperature of 71.7 degrees F was 0.4 degrees F below the 20th Century average. The 2008 average summer temperature was 72.7 degrees F.
Last night's 1/2 inch of rain may bring us up to the normal amount of rainfall for the year so far. We are 1.5 inches above the normal for September... Not a week has gone by when the grass didn't need to be mowed! Way to go Kent State!

25th Annual Old Machinery Days

We drove over some roads to the Fort Ancient Restored Machinery Club's Old Machinery Days that we hadn't been on for a while. Roads on which we were once comfortable riding our bicycles. And, some roads on which I had ridden my bicycle for this year's MS-150.

The featured tractor was the Cockshutt.

There was a nice display of John Deere's and a surprising display of Olivers.

Pete brought his 1928 and 1948 John Deere D's.

And, of course, there was the unusual...

Do you remember what your phone number was when you were growing up? Before is was all numbers?

There were a few steam engines. Later in the afternoon, the sawmill would be operating.

The shuttle driver caught up with us as we walked to the parking area. So he gave us a ride.

Little Miss El...

Try again, Little Miss El...

There you go! You can walk that far!

This year the Oliver went to the Butler County Antique Machinery Show.
There were only five Olivers: this is not Oliver country!

Slim and Sally were there. In the background is the Chrisholm Historic Farmstead . New this year are the historically appropriate dovetail lace panels for the twelve parlor and dining room windows.

Area Master Gardeners have planted a vegetable garden as well as an herb/medicinal garden having historically appropriate plants... except for the blackberry lilies.
