Portland, Indiana
2017 - 52nd Annual Tri-State
Gas, Engine and Tractor Show
Portland, Indiana
Driving between Richmond and Portland, Indiana, we saw fields of
beans, corn and more surprising, windmills.
The featured tractor was Oliver Hart-Parr.
Here are a couple of Indiana tractors.
Steam threshing wheat.
Steam, sawing wood.
This is an especially pretty steam engine.
I think this Minneapolis may have been at Georgetown.
The steam shovel impressed folks as it shoveled dirt...
A club for antique Caterpillar machinery owners?
Who knew?
A man was having great fun maneuvering this outfit with
what looked like his phone.
We had a nice lunch, rested our feet and backs, talked tractor talk with folks at our table,
well, John did at any rate.

Later we chatted with the man who had restored this bicycle.
It had been found in an attic, taken totally apart and cleaned.
One of the first 'safety' bicycles.
Notice the seat post and the massive chain.
We wandered through the outdoor aisles, looking at the wares.
Looking specifically for knobs for the IH 300.
Purchased one: close, but not the right size.

Driving north, the windmills were not turning.
There was little breeze.
Coming home,
the windmills were all in motion.
The weather was pleasant, with partly cloudy skies,
temperatures in the mid-70's.
Drove past the Levi Coffin Museum in Fountain City. Will have to stop there one day.
The house was one of the 'grand central stations' of the Underground Railway.
