29th GOBA

The 29th annual Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure started on Father's Day
in Findlay, Ohio.
Bicyclists were to ride from Findlay to Tiffin on Sunday,
from Tiffin to Upper Sandusky on Tuesday,
from Upper Sandusky to Bellefontaine on Wednesday,
from Bellefontaine to Kenton on Friday,
returning to Findlay on Saturday.
Monday and Thursday were layover days with out and back routes for those who desired.
We got as far as the entrance to the Hancock County Fairgrounds
to pick up our registration materials
when the brake line sprung a leak.

The truck was towed to LaRiche's Chevrolet.
Of course, being Saturday afternoon, no one was there.
No one was there Sunday, either.
We stayed at the very nice Findlay Inn right across the street.
The rooms in the Findlay Inn surround the atrium (convention center).
We enjoyed an exceptional free breakfast at the Tavern at the Inn.

Being without a vehicle, we did a lot of walking around town.
Findlay is a very walk-able town, with an assortment of friendly restaurants,
small shops and interesting things to see.

The Hancock County Courthouse.
Notice the flag.
There was always a breeze; we thought about the bicyclists
and how they would be faring with the wind.

Findlay was part of the Underground Railroad.

The Muddy River Bicycle Company.
The quite attractive logo was present on a variety of T-shirts,
caps and sweat shirts. Also available were a few colorful baskets to be
placed on the handlebars for carrying supplies.
There was a second, smaller bicycle shop that featured small
bicycles without pedals for the younger set.

Findlay is the home of the Marathon Petroleum Corporation.

The Marathon Petroleum Corporation started out as the Ohio Oil Company.
The Ohio Oil Company was purchased by Standard Oil,
then split apart.
The Marathon Petroleum Corporation is a subsidiary of Marathon Oil.

Wednesday afternoon, Allen Johnson and the J&J Racing Team
with the NHRA Dodge Dart were a hit for the
Marathon employees and passers-by.
Ice cream was being given out on a hot afternoon.

On one of our adventures, we found pictures painted on the sides of buildings.
Lake Erie, perhaps, above; Fort Findlay, below.

A brake kit was ordered for the truck early Monday morning, with
promises that installation would be complete by Thursday.
Installation was complete by Wednesday afternoon.
We headed home.
Our Findlay mini-vacation came to an end.
