Chrisholm Historic Farmstead
Groups of preschoolers came to Chrisholm Historic Farmstead to experience
"A Day in the Life of a Historic Amish-Mennonite Child."
Christian Augspurger came to Butler County from Germany to settle along the
Great Miami River. He and his family built Chrisholm.
Before the children arrived, I walked over to see the
Augspurger Family Cemetery.
The children gathering at the shelter.
The preschoolers had the opportunity to hunt for real chicken eggs,
investigate the garden, snap green beans,
pretend to wash and hang laundry using clothes pins and

Anne and I were in charge of the tour through the house.
Here is the second group of preschoolers in the 'front parlor' of the house.
The piano in the upper left is one of two pianos that were brought from Germany.
Anne asked the children how this room is different from their living room.
I showed them the bed that was used.
The movable fence in the middle of the table was invented by John Augsburger.
He received an award for his invention at the Ohio State Fair.
The children gently handled the horse and buggy
noticing the 'caution' sign at the back of the buggy.
The children walked into what was at one time the kitchen.
The cupboard over Anne's shoulder hides a staircase to the second floor.
From the second floor there is a staircase to the attic.
In the attic is a staircase going to the 'widow's walk' on top of the house.
An attentive group of students.
