Early Birthday Wishes

We celebrated our youngest daughters' birthday a little early this year.
We ate dinner at Gustavo's Mexican Restaurant

After dinner, the birthday girl was serenaded by the staff.
They sang a Mexican version of 'Happy Birthday!'

The 'birthday girl' wearing the special birthday hat.
Notice the dish of fried ice cream in front of the her.
She shared her treat with us!

Ellie got to wear the special birthday hat a year ago.
She wanted to try it on.
_________

Presents and an elderberry crisp for dessert.

What is the present in the green wrapping?

Presents. Three generations.

After having the elderberry crisp with a little Cool Whip on the top,
Noah invited us to play 'Clue' with him.
And who was the culprit?
Miss Scarlet with the dagger in the garage.
Noah was the winner!
Happy Birthday to you!

Clermont County Antique Machinery Show

We drove to Stonelick State Park to see the Clermont County Antique Machinery Show.
This was to be my first time driving in seven weeks.
Also, my first time walking without my walker.

The featured tractor: the Wheel Horse.

The shingle mill with the saw mill in the background.

Having coffee in the cool of the morning.

Here is an early camper,
with everything you could possibly need,
pulled by a Studebaker pick up truck.
Pretty nifty.

I am leaning on a 1951 Buick Roadmaster convertible.
My walker is in the Traverse.

The 1937 British Field Marshall is started with a 12 gauge shotgun shell.

For a small antique machinery show out in the country,
there were some interesting displays.

43rd Reunion Ohio Valley Antique Machinery Show

This years show featured steam engines, Wheel Horse garden tractors
 and Fairbanks Morse gas engines.
__________________________
The featured piece of equipment is the 1920 Bucyrus Steam Shovel owned by the OVAM.
The steam shovel was purchased by the club in 1974.
It was discovered in a gravel pit near Cincinnati and had been sitting unused
for more than 40 years.
After two years of work, the restored shovel was displayed.
It was the feature piece in the 1977 OVAM show.
The shovel moved to the current show ground in 1992. It operated
until the late 1990's when boiler problems took it out of service.
Another restoration project started in 2007 and the
shovel was once again operating in 2012.

The row of steam engines.

There were also smaller steam engines operating around the grounds.

A Case steam engine operating the saw mill.

Cedar logs and cedar shingles in the shingle mill.

The noon whistle.

A fine set of Oliver tractors.
From left to right; 1550, 1555, 1600, 1650, and a  1700.

The blacksmith is working his craft.

The Underground Railroad quilt on display.

This John Deere has a winch that is used to pull logs out of the woods.
The winch lifts the front of the log high enough so that the log doesn't make a furrow
as it is pulled along.
The young man had an appreciative audience as he explained the winch.

And, of course, steam is used to cook corn on the cob.

We took a break and cooled off with hand made strawberry ice cream.
The ice cream is made with a John Deere engine - donations only.
I'm not a fan of strawberry ice cream, but this batch was very tasty!

Swimming Fun

I was invited to accompany the grandchildren to swim in Uncle Walter and Aunt B.'s pool.
We arrived late Monday afternoon.

The silent shark swam near the pirate ship looking for
small boy toes and smaller girl toes to nibble.

Tuesday was a beautiful day to be in the pool.

Wednesday morning, a steady rain fell.

The children played inside building 'seats' with the chair cushions.

We took a drive down 'memory lane' before stopping for a Mexican lunch.
This is the new Isham Memorial School.
I attended the old Isham School; grades three through nine.

My paternal grandparents' house.
It seemed so big back then.

Swimming Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday morning, the children decided to go fishing.
Uncle Walter taught K.K. how to cast

and then it was Noah's turn to learn.

Their mother, watching her children practice casting.

And where was not-so-little Miss El?
She got to play in the pool all morning with Grandma.
Oh, and we took a break to play wii.

We would take breaks to play the board game Clue.
Here we are with our special hats - nothing to do with the
game of Clue.
