Fourth of July
Celebrating Hamilton's History / Robert McCloskey Centennial
Robert McCloskey, a Hamilton native, was the author of eight children's books.
Make Way for Ducklings was the winner
of the 1942 Caldecott Award;
Time of Wonder, 1958 Caldecott Award.
Ruth invited us to go with her to see the parade.
A float featuring some of the characters from McCloskey's books.
The Fairfield marching band.
Bicycles, of course.

After the parade, we went to the Heritage Hall.
While a counselor at Camp Campbell Gard,
McCloskey was asked to carve a totem pole.
In the middle of the pole, is the back of a head.
The face is looking across the Great Miami River into Rentschler Forest.
Robert McCloskey also produced the sculptures beside the steps
in Heritage Hall (Frederick G. Mueller Building).
Brandon demonstrated the donut machine from the book Homer Price.
The machine made too many donuts; a lady lost her bracelet in the dough.
Homer posted a reward for the finder of the bracelet.
The machine was one of three used in the movie, Homer Price.

We walked up to the third floor of the building to see
the former Council Chambers.
"Founding of the Fortress" by local artist, Jack Willard.
The painting is an idealized representation of the building
of Fort Hamilton in 1791.
