Weather Update for January 2014
Though the current outside temperature remains in the low 50's, we still have snow on the ground. We took advantage of the comparatively warm temperatures this afternoon to wash the salt off the cars. And the truck.
So far in January, this area has seen 20.4 inches of snow. This is the
most snow since 1996 and the fourth-most ever recorded by the
National Weather Service.
The record snowfall for January was 31.5 inches set in 1978.
A total of 33.2 inches of snow has been recorded this winter so far,
which is much higher than the yearly average of 22.1 inches.
The most snowfall recorded by the weather service in a winter was
53.9 inches, which fell during the winter of 1977-1978.
The children made up a day of school on a Saturday that year.
Will the groundhog see his shadow on Sunday?
Will Seattle win the Super Bowl?
Or will it be Denver?
