The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure

GOBA 23: Let's put it together!

Members of Team Bob congregated around the Penske truck Saturday evening in anticipation of the upcoming adventures.
John was 'lucky' enough to have the highest rider number!

As is the custom, we started out early Sunday morning from Kenton, headed north east to Upper Sandusky for the 'lunch stop.' We were shrouded in fog as we rode the first 25 miles.
After a quick bite, we headed south east towards Marion and had a head wind that surprised even the more experienced riders, before arriving at the Marion County Fairgrounds.

Early Monday morning, we headed south into the wind to Delaware where we would camp Monday and Tuesday evenings. We thought 40 miles into the wind was enough for the second day of the adventure!
Monday afternoon, we walked around the Delaware County Fairgrounds
found some ice cream and watched the chicken being cooked for dinner.

Members of Team Bob stayed out of the drizzle under the tents.

Tuesday, was the first 'rest' day. We planned a short ride that turned into an 'out to the breakfast stop and back' as we watched the approaching lightning.
Tuesday afternoon was hot and windy. I found the perfect place to cool off. I sat in the shade of the stadium and had a wonderful breeze to keep me cool!

Wednesday morning was another early start as we traveled south west - into the wind - to London.
The folks in London prepared a variety of meals and treats for the bikers. There were choices of BBQ, box lunches and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Thursday, we rode the bus into town for the Strawberry Festival anticipating fresh strawberries. We were out of luck!
Thursday evening, a huge storm blew through. I was in our tent. The sides of the tent were pushed in by the wind and the rain. Fortunately, the storm was short lived, but the temperatures dropped.

Friday morning was chilly. Rain fell as we rode towards Catawba. We completed the 56 miles north to Bellefontaine - making but one stop in Urbana for a very nice lunch.

Saturday morning, we awoke to a quiet tent for the first time all week. It wasn't shaking and flapping in the wind as it had been the previous mornings! Could it be the winds were behind us?
We rode the 'short cut' back to Kenton - twenty miles and averaged 15 miles per hour!
The truck arrived, we helped unload the bags, swept the truck and off it went. The end of yet another Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure!

While we were gone, we had two and three quarters inches of rain. At the end of June, 8.89 inches of rain have fallen, the normal for the month of June is 4.29 inches. The garden is lush!
