Bicycle Safari Adventures

Or: " The Reunion of the Original West Chester Wheelmen"

Here we are: a few of the original West Chester Wheelmen participating in the Bicycle Safari sponsored by the Florida Freewheelers. We, of course, chose the best possible place to set up our tents: in the shade and out of the rain.
Saturdays rides included loops of 36, 54 and 66 miles through the quiet roads in Suwanee County. Sundays rides included a century (100 miles) as well as loops of 34 and 64 miles that stopped at the Florida Sheriff's Boys Ranch.
Sunday afternoon, fresh Florida corn was cooked for all to enjoy.
John and Ken enjoying their corn on the cob.
One of the Florida Freewheelers sewed these armadillos with assorted fabrics.
The armadillo is Florida's state animal, don'cha know?
Oh yes, and did I mention the beer line?
After an all-you-care-to-eat buffet by the 'official caterer', Dixie Grill and Steer Room, bicyclists enjoyed the band's country music. Mary Kay, Ken and Ron, all from Cincinnati.
Ron rode a century that day!
Yeah, Ron!

Monday, bicyclists packed their gear onto the truck and rode 58 miles up to Cherry Lake 4-H Camp.
Early morning on Cherry Lake before all the tents are up.

Tuesdays rides included 44, 52, 62 and 100 mile hilly loops up to Quitman in Georgia. Wednesday, riders had choices of 36, 66 and 76 mile loops south to Madison.
Wednesday morning, we made an attempt to get as many Cincinnati bicyclists together for a picture...you know how that goes. Here is Ken, Mary Kay, John, John, Lynn, Wayne and me.
Wednesday evening, after the traditional corn on the cob, Dixie Grill prepared an outstanding rib dinner with ice cream sundaes for dessert. Like anyone has room for ice cream sundaes after all the ribs and corn!

Thursday, riders once again loaded their gear onto the truck for the return trip to Live Oak. We left early, drove along the Gulf Coast before heading north.

Comments:
It looked like you had lots of fun at the Safari down in Florida. It was good that you were able to pitch your tents where they wouldn't get rain and that they got shade! The beer line looked very long!
You never mentioned which loop that you biked while you were down there. How far did you bike?
The sunrise at the 4-H camp looked great. How was the weather down there? I imagine that it was better than at home
Glad that everyone had a very great time! I imagine that even though you had a great time, you were very glad to get back home!
