Wishing all the mothers a very happy Mother's Day! As it happens, this is also the weekend of the 47th annual Tour of the Scioto River Valley; a two day, 200 mile bicycle ride from Columbus to Portsmouth and back. Saturday, the temperatures were in the high 60's/low 70's; an almost perfect day to ride. Today, Sunday, for the trip back to Columbus, a strong wind is whipping around from the south/southeast and periodically there are downpours accompanied by thunder... yes, ideal TOSRV weather!
We rode TOSRV for a number of years. We 'enjoyed' riding in the rain, sun and wind along with assorted storms. Occasionally, we did have pleasant weather. Many years ago, four of us were eating breakfast Saturday morning in Columbus. One of the men said to me, "Do you ride?" I replied, "Yes, some." It was a beautiful day; we were at Lake White, the third rest stop, fairly early. The same men with whom we had eaten breakfast were also there. The one man turned to me with a surprised look in his eyes and said, "How did you get here?" I replied, "Just like you; I rode my bike!" Put a smile on my face!
Happy Mother's Day!
We met the grandchildren and their parents at General Butler State Park Resort for an elaborate luncheon buffet. As well as for the traditional exchange of presents and cards. We spent a good hour at the Conference Center sampling assorted food items. I think we all ate our share!
Afterwards, the grandchildren did a little Summer shopping at the Carrollton Outlet Mall! Noah chose a 'light-up' Spider Man shirt and K.K. chose new dresses. We would have liked to peruse the Kentucky Scottish Festival at G.B.S.P.R., but the constant rain sent all the participants home. We'll try again next year!
