Stargazers....

Stargazers of the world are getting a treat. Today, Saturday, and Sunday, Venus, Jupiter and Earth's moon converge in the western sky.

A crescent moon joins Venus and Jupiter this weekend. The celestial encounter will be visible from around the world.

The moon will appear closer to Venus today and closer to Jupiter on Sunday.  The moon then retreats from view, but Venus and Jupiter keep drawing closer.

Venus and Jupiter will be just three degrees apart by mid-March.
Enjoy!

Lumina Update...

This package was in our mailbox... well, it was partially in our mailbox. About six inches stuck out of the box. It was just lucky that I walked out to get the mail before a speeding vehicle drove too close to the mailbox and clipped the package.

Just what we were looking for; the new door handle for the Lumina.

Work in progress, then Voila! The new door handle installed.
Only, of course, everyone knows it wasn't as easy as that!
But now we are good to go!

Thanks for asking, Minnesota Fred...
I got a little side-tracked, what with the cold weather and all!  :-)

February Cold....

We went for a walk out back... not quite the winter wonderland it has been in the past.

The snow flowers were covered with snow!

We found where the deer slept while it was snowing.

There wasn't even enough snow to plow the drive!

The temperature reached all of 21 degrees today! I shouldn't complain...
I know that Minnesota Fred has colder weather!
Brrrrrr!

February Snow... Cold Temperatures

We looked outside and wondered what happened to the birds at the feeder....

just in front of the main trunk, can you see the red-tailed hawk?

Here is a closer view.

He had scared away all the smaller birds.

We are under a winter storm advisory... with an inch of snow predicted.
Colder weather will prevail this weekend - with a high tomorrow of 24 degrees!

Enjoy the sunshine and warm air, Uncle Walter!
Soak up some sunshine for us!

"Charley Harper: A Bird's Eye View"

DAAP Galleries in collaboration with the Charley Harper Studio gave an overview of the late Cincinnati artist and illustrator.

Beginning with drawings he made at the age of eight, the display showed the development of his minimal realism artistic style.

Asked when he decided to become an artist, Charley would reply,
"When I discovered that I could draw better than anybody else in the fourth grade."

The Fables, an introduction to silk screening in the 1950's, is a whimsical compilation of six works: Humpty Dumpty, Rock-A-Bye Baby, Jonah and the Whale, The Three Little Pigs, Little Boy Blue and The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg.

Christmas cards from the Harper's                        Ladybug lovers of the world arise!

Jaguar and an anaconda....

Riding along the bike path.... my title.

Charley Harper passed away in 2007.
'Cartoon' drawn by another Cincinnati icon - Jim Borgman.

A 'Minnesota Fred' Project

The Lumina has an unconventional door handle.

Last Monday, I pulled the door handle to throw my gym bag onto the back seat and the door didn't open...worse yet, the handle had a suspiciously 'loose' feel to it...
Not to be deterred from my trip to the gym, I opened the passenger side door, threw my gym bag onto the back seat and crawled over the console to the driver's side.

A horrible thought struck me! What if I'm in an accident and can't get out?

Voila! I could open the door from the inside; so I was good to go.

Pieces have been ordered.

We were told that this is a common problem with the Lumina.
I wonder why...

Minnesota Fred would tell me to ride my bike to the gym, to the store, to the library and to the post office. Well, I live out in the country, unlike Minnesota Fred. The nearest store, library or post office to which I can ride safely, and safely is the key word here, is seven miles away!
And there is no place near-by to go swimming in the winter!

With gas prices going up, I may be riding my bike!

It's about that time.

Since my cone flowers are growing so well, I decided to 'start' some sweet peas with my tomatoes and peppers.
How did I decide on sweet peas?
Do you know?

What winter?

We are more than halfway through what has been the second-least snowy winter on record, going back to the winter of 1918-19, which saw only 1.6 inches of snow the entire season!

Only two inches have been recorded this winter, 9.6 inches below the normal 11.6 inches by this date.

By this time last year, we'd had 29.6 inches of snow.

January, typically the year's snowiest month, just 1.6 inches of snow fell, down from the normal six inches.

5.15 inches of precipitation were recorded for January, 2.35 inches above the normal total of 2.8 inches.

There' still a lot of winter to go, so things could change....

The temperature at 2:25 is sixty-one! The sun is shining!
