Deer

Today has been an overcast, cool day, just the kind of day that brings the white tail deer out of the woods.

I'm washing the dinner dishes and look up and what do I see in the back yard?
So close, I can almost reach out and touch them!

This picture is not so clear. I was loathe to open the door to take his picture for fear I would scare him away.
The flash reflected in the window - hence the 'cloudiness' of the picture.

I watched them graze in the back yard for a good 15 minutes before they ran away.

January Ice Storm

An ice storm had been threatened for Friday night/early Saturday morning.... we woke to ice on the north and east windows of the sun room.

No newspaper, no Saturday morning Sudoku with coffee!

The temperature remains at 23 degrees.

I took a walk outside thinking maybe the newspaper had come... not yet.
And, to take pictures.
We are under a Level 1 travel advisory ... be careful out there; it is slippery!

Even though the wind is blowing, the whirligigs are frozen and still.

It's even too cold to shovel the walk!

The outside of the sunroom windows....

Brrr....

Today is a soup kind of day; we'll try a new recipe.
"Italian Chicken Soup" with Pillsbury crescent rolls or, better still, corn meal muffins!  Yummmm.......

Weather, whether we like it or not!

We have had an unusual variety of weather so far this year.

Warm days, followed by falling temperatures with the threat of snow.

Freezing temperatures followed by warmer, sunny days.

The bird feeder had to be placed higher in the tree after we observed a deer standing on her hind legs, eating the bird seed!

Monday, January 16, we had a morning of strong winds with over an inch and a half of rain!

Tuesday's temperature.

Yup, I just checked.... already, we've had an additional half inch of rain than is normal for this time of the year!

Weather, whether we like it or not!

At least our temperatures are not the sub-zero temperatures that Minnesota Fred has! Brrrr!
