The children brought the place mats they had made in school; the tasty turkey, sweet potatoes and the obligatory green bean casserole are ready. There were two kinds of stuffing (one with oysters), mashed potatoes, gravy, creamed peas, cole slaw, Waldorf salad, and cranberry sauce. Desserts included home-made pumpkin and apple pies, my contributions.
You better be wearing your 'little turkey' outfit, Miss Ellie! Mommy had to stuff your feet in! Way to grow, Miss Ellie!
After stuffing ourselves with all the tasty food, we walked with the children to a local school playground. (Me, without my camera!) Even though there was some complaining of being thirsty on the way home, everyone walked the whole way! That was a first for the youngest member! He was proud that he had walked the whole way!
After a piece of pie and a drink, the children and the Grandmas built with the Lincoln logs. Noah built a road for his cars, and K.K. learned how to put windows and doors in her building.
Check out that fantastic road for the cars!
Happy Thanksgiving to You!
The mower is off, the leaf rake put away and time for the 'snow' blade.
Christine and Bob took us to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum . The new Intrepid Museum opened its doors for the first time November 8 and 9, after a two year renovation project. It took us an hour and a half to get to the ticket booth! The wind was cold and blustery! Brrr!
Three Chinooks flew overhead as we waited in line.
A bicycle path was parallel to where we were standing. Even though it was blustery and cold, there was a fair amount of bicycle traffic on the path. We got a little closer to the door and were told the computer system had broken down and no more tickets could be printed... yikes!
We warmed up by looking at the inside displays before going out to brave the wind again. Look at the flags behind the British Airways Concorde!
Back atop the aircraft carrier.
Christine at the controls!
The cockpit of the BA Concorde is on the right.
Back home, Christine is finely chopping a red pepper, freshly picked parsley and cilantro leaves and a medium scallion for ranch dressing. "There is something relaxing about finely chopping ingredients," she says. Notice the new granite counter top.
After a delicious dinner of grilled chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans, Christine and Bob surprised me with an early birthday treat: raspberry white chocolate cupcakes! Did we have a sugar high!
The next morning, it was business as usual! "Have a good day, Christine!" Lloyd is in the background. He is becoming more friendly. His brother, Floyd, poked his head up once or twice, but mostly stayed hidden. Next time, Floyd.
Bob saying good-bye!
As we approached the airport, we could see a white slurry outside the window. There had been talk about snow at the airport. We were greeted with a layer of snow on the car, and windows that were frozen shut. Brrr... Well, somebody had to clean the windows, then someone else had to get out to release the car from the parking lot hostages. Yikes!
All in all, a nice trip!
Here are a two early birthday cards. One from Uncle Fred who thinks it "sucks being that old." No, Uncle Fred. It sucks being 70 1/2 years old and having to withdraw money from your IRA! Hopefully, by the time I 'get' to be that old, this financial crisis will have righted itself! Meanwhile, we'll dance in the rain!
A challenge to those of you who normally vote an 'independent' ticket. This year, be brave; take a stand; let your vote be counted!
I know that you are brave enough to accept this challenge!
A belated "thank you" to all of you who normally vote an 'independent' ticket who were brave enough to take a stand to let your vote be counted! "Thank you!" It's now time to dance in the rain!
